Gatwick a month later

A month has been and gone now since the “drones” over Gatwick airport incident and we are now no closer to knowing what happened. No arrests made and not much coming out now from the police makes you think, was there a drone there in the first place?
The government announced tougher drone laws and regulations but this was nothing new as these changes are either already in place or already in the pipeline.

Meanwhile back at Aspect Aerial Imagery HQ we have been working on our new look website with more content and a place to buy some of our photos in digital format. Building and maintaining a website is a time consuming process and not one I enjoy (I’d much rather be out flying), but it is vital for a drone business. As well as that we’ve been putting togeather quotes and a bit of mapping using DroneDeploy plus we have agreed to do a guest blog for the upcoming DroneBuddys website, which should be interesting.

Next month

In the next few weeks we will be adding to our photographic portfolio with expeditions planned to possibly the Scottish Highlands or the Lakes. As well we are planning to write a review of the DroneDeploy app for new drone users and our showreel should be ready very soon.

Not a good few days for the drone industry! Just in case you have been living in a cave the last few days drones have been flying over Gatwick airport in Southern England, hence leading to hundreds of flights being suspended.  Probably the less said about this news story the better!  While this has undoubtedly been very bad publicity for the drone industry and leading to a very negative public perception I feel it is very important now to reinforce the good that drones are doing all over the world.  If you are in any doubt of the above fact please watch this video. Hiatus over!

Blog hiatus over The Aspect Aerial Imagery blog is now back up and running after some issues with servers. We will be updating this blog now on the last Monday of the month.  Uk weather! After what seems like weeks of heavy rain and high winds this morning we were greeted with heavy snow. Suffice to say this mornings drone mapping mission of a local conservation site isn’t going to happen.     Some great photographic opportunities recently have been missed either because of the wind or the rain, but with spring now around the corner things can only get better! Short case study on drones in Agriculture    Our short case study of drones in agriculture was re-published last week. As you will see the case for the use of drones in the agricultural sector is overwhelming. Osmo Arrived, another use for drones and yet another aerial to fix!

For anyone who has no idea what an Osmo is, its basically a 4K capable camera on a stick!  As we are having more enquiries from estate agents and commercial properties for videos and pictures we can now offer internal footage. I wouldn’t want to fly a drone in somebody’s palatial living room so now we have another option. Noticed yet another novel use of drones today.  Using-drones-to-hang-Christmas-lights-  Is there any job that a drone can’t be used for? Although not so sure the CAA or local police would be too happy in the UK. Also earlier today the drone phone rang! Who is calling? BBC for their next big shoot? Maybe an estate agent for a commercial shoot? No yet another “Do you repair roof aerials?”.
